Easingwold Players – Robin Hood- Thursday

The story begins in Galtres Forest, where the villagefolk of Easingwold live in fear under the cruel rule of Sheriff Mutton of Sheriff Hutton. The Sheriff is raising taxes to fund his own lavish lifestyle and schemes to capture Robin Hood, the heroic outlaw who steals from the rich to give to the poor.

The Sheriff has a cunning plan to stop Robin: he will host an archery contest, with a huge prize as well as the chance to win the hand of his niece Maid Marian – all as a trap to capture Robin Hood. Robin, though warned of the danger, can’t resist entering, confident that his skills will win the day. Disguised, Robin enters the contest, wins the prize, and reveals his true identity, but the Sheriff captures Robin!

The Sheriff goes a little crazy with victory, talking to pigeons and the like, as the Merry Men prepare for a daring rescue mission to free Robin. Robin escapes and confronts the Sheriff and a grand sword fight ensues. Just as it seems the Sheriff has the upper hand; a little bit of magic and royal intervention turns the tide and the Sheriff is defeated. The pantomime ends with Robin and Marian getting married and the Sheriff humbled, with Galtres Forest a place of peace and happiness once again.
