Shepherd Concert Brass Band Performance
York-based Shepherd Concert Brass Band entertained a packed GEC with a two hour show with a modern twist. Their choice of music ranged from Abba, Robbie Williams, Tina Turner and even Crazy Train, a tribute to the late, great Ozzy Osbourne. Not what you would normally expect from a brass band but their music was a refreshing change to the usual marches and ceremonial pieces. The conductor, Mike Pratt, was a live wire, keeping the audience entertained between tunes and putting huge amounts of energy into his conducting and dancing.
The Concert Brass Band is one of six bands under the Shepherd Group umbrella. Youngsters with an interest in music can join the Brass Roots band and practice their musical skills before progressing up the ladder to the Academy Band and upwards to the heights of the Concert Bands and Senior Bands. They meet on Monday evenings at the Portakabin site in Huntington.
The concert also raised funds for Yorkshire Cancer Research with donations and a raffle.
